Lesson 3 - Major Treatment Issues

In this lesson, you will learn about issues that may arise for both clients and professionals when a disclosure of maltreatment is made. Helpful tools and interventions, as well as potentially harmful strategies, will also be identified.

At the end of this lesson, you should be able to:

  1. Identify some of the feelings parents/caregivers may experience during the crisis period following the disclosure/discovery of child abuse.
  2. Understand the mental health professional’s role in assisting families when a child abuse report must be made.
  3. Identify issues that may arise for the mental health professional working with child and adult victims of abuse.
  4. Identify helpful tools and interventions for working with victims of abuse.
